The CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) Heating and Plumbing test is for all construction industry heating and plumbing workers and professionals. It is effectively a security check to ensure all heating and plumbing workers who have access to, and are working on, construction sites are qualified to do so.
HVACR stands for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration.
The Specialist CITB plumbing and heating test is a 45min touch-screen test consisting of 50 questions.
The test covers mechanical engineering theory based on the concept of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and thermodynamics and aims to improve standards for indoor air quality and thermal comfort.
The knowledge you will gain by taking this test is the required standard for all buildings of any size or complexity from one room apartments to large industrial complexes.
It is a legal requirement for plumbers to pass this test to work on the construction sites legally.
Successful candidates receive a score report and are then eligible to apply for a JIB card. The JIB card is not part of the CSCS scheme and CSCS does not issue this card. However, plumbers are required to do this CITB test before applying for a JIB card.
Anyone working within heating and plumbing must pass this test to be able to work.
Ideally, a candidate would have completed a high school diploma with a foundation in math and science and then have undertaken a formal technical training program to qualify for a licence and receive an EPA certificate.
Construction Guidance is available to help you with any questions you may have and can provide you with the appropriate revision material to practice for your test. Our aim is to ensure you feel confident on the day and equipped with the knowledge you need to have the very best chance of passing the test.
